  Visually stunning work. However the story leaves a lot to be desired... ie. there hardly is one except for the meandering storyline with Christian martyrdom spattered everywhere. Acting by Rachel Weisz saves the day, but is it enough to make up for the rest? Almost but not quite. Skip it unless you have nothing else to watch.

  A good movie made great by the wonderful acting of Rachel Weisz. Set pieces and supporting cast alsio shine in this summer drama. Something for everyone with a script that's very entertaining.

  One of those sweeping epic films. No coherent plot. Could have been better better if there was some plot focus on Rachel Weis's character, Hypatia(sp?).

  Good acting and decent script, Rachel Weisz has never been better. A lack of other females in this movie and a rather gloomy story makes this an odd Summer movie. Entertaining none the less.

  I always enjoy Rachel, but this movie was rather dark and depressing. I prefer something more entertaining.
