  i tend to shy away from movies that promote the glories of 'machismo' of who can be more violent than the other, or cocky ruthless bullying. well, given the context was corrupt lawmen, and illegal bootleggers making moonshine; it turned out very well done, depicting a very dark story of that era. lives all seemed dispensable, and no one was safe; and every man had to figure out how to survive 'on top' or be knocked aside as mere dead-meat. no one is invincible. a nice ending... funny... and happy. worth the see.

  beautifully filmed, but i didn't care for guy pearce's performance at all.

  I liked the fact that Forrest bounced right back even after they slit his throat & shot him 3-4 times. I disliked that Cricket, such a "good boy" was killed.

  The setting is lovely, I was taken right to Virginia in the thirties. Acting very good. The story plot sometimes compelling. And the violence is gratuitous, extreme, disturbing and unnecessary. It's Bonnie and Clyde done to what the director. Sees as acceptable 2012 violence and carnage levels. It ruined the movie for us, and left us feeling as disturbed as one could be without seeing this stuff in real life. The same movie could have been mase with 1/10 of the violence. A sad commentarynon our times.

  great movie and truly entertaining. loved the western style theme. the actors are believable and i enjoyed watching each scene.
