really enjoyable ,good story, important topic though i found the reasonings behind previous lack of action by school boards to be totally incomprehensible-- children should always be the main reasoning and if the system is failing them then the school boards, the unions and everyone else should be trying to make changes not blocking changes.

first of all this was a true movie with similar ideas in toronto schools, so i feel that it gave us the teachers and students some of the answers that we require to fix our schools as well. the acting was excellent with maggie and viola and of course holly hunter giving superb performances.

wonderful movie. maggie gyllenhaal and viola davis are outstanding. they are two mothers who are very concerned about their children's progress in a very poor school and try to improve conditions. they are fought by the pta and officials but are determined to form a well run charter school for their children. the us school system continues to amaze me - there are so many poor schools and parents seem to have so little say in their child's placement. a must see! as a retired teacher, i was spellbound.

i enjoyed the movie, it was good to see that not always the unions win, both maggie and viola were great actors. very heartfelt between viola and her son.

just not compelling; subject matter such as this is better suited to a tv movie-of-the-week.

insprational and moving.... absolutely worth going to see this film! the performances by maggie gyllenhaal and viola davais were both spectacular and very believable. viola davis should get a supporting actress nod for her role as the reluctant teacher!
