Pauline Julien: A Woman, A Country Synopsis
A woman loses her voice, mirroring a nation that loses its own alongside her. Pauline Julien, a fiery singer and a true poetic and political icon, left an enduring mark on us. We follow her through her triumphs on stage, her commitment to the emancipation of the nation of Quebec, as well as moments of profound intimacy with her children, but above all, at the heart of her incandescent love story with Gérald Godin. The film captures her at the moment she is diagnosed with degenerative aphasia, a condition that will gradually steal her voice. We retrace the thread of a life filled with light, hard work, love, and heartbreak. Pauline dances, Pauline loves, Pauline rages, Pauline makes love, Pauline burns. Pauline lives. Pauline dies. What remains of her?
In French with English subtitles.
